"Have you too met yet?" M asked.
Both men shook their heads.
"Well, introduce yourselves."
"Sebastian Hawthorne."
"Alec Trevelyan."
Neither of them exchanged a handshake.
M gave up on them. "Now, this is what I want you to do . . ."

"Currently, "M began, "The Russians have been experimenting with top secret chemical weapons. We don't know exactly what these chemicals do or might do, but we do know that whatever it is: it isn't going to be used for anything good."
"There's a small outpost several miles from Stalingrad where they've been supposedly been testing these chemicals on POW's and other prisoners that they've captured." M continued, sitting in her usual seat behind her massive desk that was about the size of a King sized bed.
"You think they're planning on launching these weapons?" Alec assumed.
Sebastian rolled his eyes, "No, they plan on playing with them."
Alec glared at him. "Perhaps they could use an additional test subject."
"Stop this, both of you. Such unseemly behavior!" M exclaimed. "I do not want my agents bickering with each other while we're on the edge of WWIII. Understood?"
"Yes." Alec mumbled.
"Of course." Sebastian replied moodily.
"As I was saying, they have prisoners. One of these said prisoners is one of our own. I want you to find them and bring them back." M said authoritively.
Alec rubbed his chin thoughtfully, "Does this perhaps have to do with that missing agent that disappeared around the time the Cold War ended several years ago?"
"Yes, 006. That is the same agent. They are quite valuable to MI6 and all of England." M explained, "They have vital news that needs to be reported to Her Majesty, the Queen."
Alec nodded. "It would be my pleasure to help Her Majesty out with this assignment. Although, I could do it alone, M. I don't need help-"
"As could I." Sebastian interrupted.
"I've worked here longer, M. You can trust me to get the job done." Alec then added quietly, "Better than some rookie."
"Nonesense, 006, 013. Both of you will go to Russia. Your transports will be ready tomorrow. Until then, I expect you two to get to know each other and do behave on this mission, 006." M said, maingly addressing Alec.
"I'd have it no other way, M." Alec said with a bit of resentment as he exited the room.

Sebastian followed Alec out. "Wait!"
Alec turned around. "You want to gimme another black eye?"
"It's not that black," Sebastian said. "Just a little blue."
"What do you want?"
"You know, since we have to go on this mission, the least we can do is try and get along."
"That's rather impossible," Alec said. "You hit me, so therefore I hit you back, so therefore, we fought. And I do not get along with people who try to kill me."
Sebastian chuckled. "Okay, first of all, total misuse of the word 'therefore.'"
"Shut up," Alec said, already getting frustrated with the man.
Sebastian shrugged. "I'm just saying that when I go into a life-threatening mission with someone, I would like to at least be on friend terms."
"If you hadn't hit me . . ."
"You pulled out your gun! And you were in my chair."
"I still can't believe you're of higher rank. I've been around longer."
Sebastian grinned. "You know what happened in Poland, a few years ago, with the diamonds and forks?"
Alec's jaw almost dropped. "That was you?"
Sebastian nodded. "Your one and only."
Alec still couldn't believe it. "That was genius."
"Thank you."
"I still hate you, though."
"I had thought that."

Alina sighed and collapsed into her chair, making sure the door to her office was locked. No more visitors today. She'd just had to deal with a very peturbed M. That was not her idea of a good day...and she did not want to even think about it.
First, she'd showed up late to the so-called "important meeting". Then M chews her out for that...and if that wasn't bad enough. No one else even bothered to show up so she was left alone to deal with M's anger.
Then, M rambled on about how Bond was out probably drinking, smoking, and womanizing all of England and that he's such a bad influence on all the agents at MI6...blah...blah...blah. Alina had still been concious at this point.
Later, several long monotonous hours later, M was still rambling on about...actually everything that seemed to have gone wrong in the past five years. Half way through, however, God must have been feeling sorry for Alina...and caused a light to fall on her head, knocking her unconcious.
She really loved God at that moment.
She then woke up with a small cut on her head, followed by many bruises on it. Now she felt like she'd been run over by a bunch of cars and then had sat through more of M's complaining. She wanted nothing more than to just relax...and...sleep...and...drink...a lot...
There was a knock on the door.
And then suddenly, she didn't like God so much.

Sebastian was really pissed off.
He really hoped Alec died before they could go on their mission, which according to M, would start tomorrow morning.
Marching back to his desk, he saw Lei perched on top of it, with a matching pissed off look on her face.
Blast, I do not need this now, Sebastian thought, walking over. "Leave me alone."
"Someone looks grumpy."
"Go away."
"Apologize for sending my computer a virus."
Sebastian looked at her. "I didn't---wait." He smirked. "Your fault for hacking into my computer."
"Your fault for having such a stupid password."
"Thanks for reminding me," Sebastian said, "I needed to change that."
Lei sighed. "I'm sorry for what happened in China---"
"Do. Not. Remind. Me. That's a part in my life that I never want to hear or even think about again."
"We need to come back one day."
"You can go, I'm perfectly fine in England, thanks."
"I hear you're about to leave soon."
Sebastian sat down on his chair. "You know, for a spy agency, we sure can't keep gossip from spreading around."
"So is it true?"
"Yes."
"Where are you going?"
"The Soviet Union."
"It's Russia now."
"Not to me. I still believe the KGB is still intact. And once I get there, they're going to torture me for Moscow."
"What happened in Moscow?"
Sebastian froze. He hadn't meant to reveal that much information. "Nothing."
"I think there's something."
"Leave me alone."
Lei sighed. "Fine, but one day, you won't know when, but one day all of your secrets are going to come out."
"Did you get that from a movie or something?"
"Go to hell, Hawthorne."
"Gladly. I don't want to go to Stalingrad. The city's still in chaos."
"It's better."
"Half the people are crazy. They still remember when the Nazis came."
Lei actually pitied him. "Good luck."
"I'll need it."

"Stupid Russians. Stupid agency. Stupid assignment." Alec continued grumbling to himself even after he had gotten away from both M and Sebastian. What kind of name is Sebastian anyway? A dumb one, no doubt. Alec thought bitterly to himself.
This was ridiculous. He was stuck going on some forsaken mission with a man who wants him dead. What a pleasant mission it would turn out to be. Not to mention that the Russians weren't the most friendly people in town and Stalingrad was certainly not the most friendly place in Russia either.
He decided he'd try and get Alina to take his place in this one. That was certainly a mistake...because all he got for his trouble was a hard slap. She'd slapped him. The nerve of some people!
"Well...I didn't want your help anyway!" Alec had retorted and gotten an empty brandy bottle thrown at him.
Note to self: do not bother Alina when she's been drinking...

Later, Sebastian took the elevator down to the second floor, hoping Alec would be reasonable by then.
He wasn't.
In fact, the man was half drunk with the woman he met earlier.
"'Ey!" Alec cried out. "You da summa---" The man burped, and sat down on his chair, pouring himself another glass of wine.
The woman was perched on the desk, giggling and drinking.
Sebastian was afraid to approach. This is what the spy world did to you.

Just as Alec and Alina were having a wonderful time drinking themselves numb, M approached. Their glasses immediately fell from their hands. M was not going to be pleased with this type of behavior. All three M's, that is...since Alec was seeing more than one.
"006! 017! What in the Lord's name are you doing?!" M cried out. "006, I am very disappointed with your behavior as of late. You must have hung around with Bond too much."
"Nah...I 'aven't reached...the 'omanizing stage..." he hiccuped, "yet."
M looked to Alina. "Well, you are almost there. I do not want to see another brandy bottle in either of your's hands until after this mission is over."
Alina pouted. "But M! I am not going...on this mission!"
"Actually, you are. You were incapacitated before I was allowed to fill you in. You will be going with 006 and 013 to Stalingrad to rescue an agent." M informed.
Alina groaned and glared at Alec. "You gave her...this idea, didn't you?"
Alec was less sober than Alina so he merely shook his head, trying to rid himself of all the people in his office.
"Do be sober before the plane arrives, all of you." M said, sighing, and walking off.

Sebastian put his sunglasses back on. It was night, but he always wore them. That way, people would never tell where he was looking.
As he rode down the elevator doors, suddenly pressed the stop button when he reached the second floor. Perhaps the idiot was sober now.
He wasn't.
Sebastian pitied the man. He was sort of laying in his chair, passed out. A bottle of brandy was in his arms.
There must have been something in Stalingrad that scared the hell out of him.
